I would be starting my journey from the start. I started the process for my internship in November of 2021 and due to various reasons such as visa fees transaction errors, document processing issues and such I left for the US on the 1st week of May 2022.
After clearing the baggage submission I was able to proceed with the other processes like visa & documentation checking and security checking I was good to go. As I walked towards my boarding area I spotted a McDonald's and decided to go and have an Indian McDonald’s lunch.
After a 20+ hour flight, I finally reached Los Angeles but my journey wasn’t finished, it took me another 20+ hours of travel to reach my destination, Mammoth Lakes. Luckily the housing office wasn’t closed yet and I got the room card for my housing and met my roommate Renz Codores for the first time. I met my supervisor and Executive Chef Kyle Filarsky (the person I learned the most from) the next day and started working. I met a lot of people while working whom I befriended and had a good relationship with.
We had a bi-seasonal menu system so during my internship we changed the menu 3 times, when I started we were working with the winter menu, then 2 months after joining we started preparing for the summer menu, for this, we made things like tomato-melon gazpacho, calamari, Coleslaw and a lot of other things. I did lots of activities like hiking, cycling, and Lakeside picnics, among other things. Then comes winter with its heavy snowfall, we had a new record this year of 715 inches this winter, along it came time to make a new menu, for which we prepared things like Japanese winter curry, Moroccan lentil stew, shakshuka, among other things. It was at this time that our new Sous Chef joined, Chef Martin Villalobos, one of the most versatile chefs I met.
I made a lot of friends here like Kyle, Martin, Jennifer, Kym, Jarold, Franky, Renz, Amanda, Anastasiia, Krystel, Greg, Jason, Jason, Anna, Carrie, Jesus, Jesus, Martin, Jessica, Chris, Vircho, Carlos, Kelly, Javier, Riza, Lylkayra, Bobby, JR, Fernando and a lot more.
I had an experience that I won’t forget any time soon due to the various people that I met and the things that I learned here.
